Tour operators in Sikkim submitted a joint proposal to the Government of Sikkim in view of the lockdown which affected tourism in Sikkim due to Covid 19 that effect the local economy of Sikkim.

Tourism in Sikkim is the main backbone of economic activity for the people of Sikkim and about two lakh out of six lakhs of total population of this tiny but beautiful Himalayan state in Sikkim which is also the most peaceful and cleanest tourism destination in India sharing the border with Nepal n the West and Bhutan in the East and China to its North.

A notification was released following the submission from the joint committee of Sikkim Tourism Stake holders comprised of Sikkim taxi owners association, Sikkim para gliding association, travel agent association of Sikkim, Sikkim hotels and restaurant association, Sikkim honestays, Sikkim Adventure tour operators, Self help group for tourism in Sikkim etc.

At the meeting, a senior tour operator and also is a mountaineer in Sikkim shared his views at the said meeting on promoting local tourism where by, the homestay owners from one district can visit the homestay owners in the next district for travel, stay and to exchange of ideas to each other in terms of how to make homestay safe and make tourist feel safe.
