On the occasion of International Youth Day -12th August, the HGTI (Himalchuli Group of Tourism Industries) celebrated this grand occasion at the Waterfall Resort & Homestay at Rumtek, East Sikkim, under the special theme of this year prescribed by the UNO as “ SAFE SPACES FOR YOUTH”. The Chairman of IJAC (Investigative Journalisms Award Committee, Sikkim) Mr. S. K. Bardewa introduced the “Portable Oxygen safety scheme” for the Youth and general Public & patients in Sikkim and mainly for the incoming tourist visiting high altitude areas of Sikkim for touring. That there has been several cases when tourists have died in high altitude due to heart attack and breathing problems because of the unavailability of the timely first aid due to remote location or the readily un-availability of the portable Oxygen. At the function which was attended by Village Youths, Mr. Bardewa introduced – life saving portable Oxygen cylinders which are very indispensable for the Youthful Mountaineers and to all tourist visiting high altitude areas of Sikkim. Shri. SK Bardewa has eventually suggested the Govt. of Sikkim to make this “life-saving practice mandatory” for all high altitude tourist vehicles and even at the remote Primary Health Centre/s (PHC) in Sikkim so that tourist coming to travel to Lachung Yumgthang, Gurudongmar lake, Chopta valley is safe in Sikkim.
